PT. Karya Lingkar Hijau (KLH) recently conducted a training program for seaweed farmers, introducing bioreactor cultivation technology to improve seedling quality, increase productivity, and promote sustainable aquaculture. This initiative is part of KLH’s mission to support coastal communities by integrating biotechnology into seaweed farming, ensuring higher yields and economic resilience.

Held in Takalar District - South Sulawesi, the training gathered local farmers, women entrepreneurs, and youth, equipping them with the knowledge and hands-on experience to cultivate seaweed more efficiently. Traditional seaweed farming faces challenges such as climate change, inconsistent seed quality, and fluctuating yields, but bioreactor cultivation offers a solution by creating controlled environments for faster and healthier seedling growth. This method enables year-round production, increased disease resistance, and improved biomass output, ultimately benefiting both the farmers and the environment.

A key focus of the training was empowering women-led cooperatives, allowing them to independently produce high-quality seedlings and reduce reliance on unpredictable natural harvests. By adopting bioreactor-based cultivation, women and small-scale farmers can scale up their businesses and access higher-value markets.
